We grow more
We need to increase the self-sufficiency rate of food in our area. Our contribution? This project, aimed at getting beginners to grasp the hoe and gardening enthusiasts to scale up.
About the project
In our own project, run by us at Leader Västra Småland, 18 participants have had the opportunity to develop their gardening skills over a longer period. There have been meetings, inspirational lectures, courses, and study visits with gardening experts with different focuses. The participants have learned various methods for vegetable gardening, but also how to best handle what grows nearby. In this way, they will combine nature with culture and provide guests with new knowledge to take home. what they have grown. They have also met entrepreneurs in the gardening field and had lectures on entrepreneurship.
With the project, we wanted to strengthen the participants' own ability to grow their own food and provide new lessons. They are now gardening inspirers who can spread the knowledge further in our area!
We have also held workshops and lectures for the public, covering everything from how to prune fruit trees to fermentation courses. Since the project is part of strengthening our civil preparedness in the area, we have also had lectures on the theme of preparedness gardening, with gardening profiles like Uncle Green and Lotta Lundgren.

Meet the gardening inspirer Josefin!
One of those who has been involved in the project is Josefin Lindblom in Norra Unnaryd. Her hope is that the group will continue to meet even after the project.
– Everyone has slightly different parts to share, she notes.
She hopes to continue developing her own garden. At home on the farm, she has set up a swish booth.
– My thoughts going forward are that I will be able to keep it open in the coming summers and hopefully full of food. I hope that people might be interested in buying some food from me, and that I have food for myself and my family.

The board's motivation
The project meets and supports a growing interest in gardening and an increased awareness of everyone's ability to sustainably influence both their own household and society towards more self-sufficient, ecological, and alternative gardening. The project targets both individual households and potential entrepreneurs in rural areas and is expected to collaborate with other organizations, schools, housing companies, and other actors.
