At the farm Sjöborgen, self-sufficiency is the focus for Malin and Peter. In 2012, they left their jobs to embrace a simpler, more sustainable life as self-sufficient individuals. We are making a study visit to the farm to learn from two people who are passionate about being self-reliant.

About the lecture:
Most of us are used to having drinking water from the tap, that we can buy the food we need at our local grocery store or order online, we search for recipes and information about food online. This system is currently sustainable. Even though municipalities are upgrading and there will be help available, we are expected to manage completely on our own for (at least) a week. So what do we need to consider to strengthen our food and water preparedness?
During this lecture, we will discuss ways we can strengthen our local food systems, how we access water, how we make our own water filters, and how we manage food waste. We will look at a simple stove we can make from large cans, so that we can easily cook even if we don't have a camping stove (or fuel to use the stove!).

Oasen at Åsen is located between Nyköping and Katrineholm and is a small-scale, regenerative farm that takes nature as its model. With a focus on sustainable food production, preparedness, and knowledge dissemination, the couple running the farm aims to inspire more people to take steps towards increased self-sufficiency and resilience in everyday life. The trip is suitable for those who want to learn more about preparedness gardening – how we can grow food that strengthens our security in uncertain times. You will also learn practical methods for preserving the harvest, with tips and techniques to extend shelf life and reduce waste.

Digital lecture on root cellars

Joakim Lilja works with cold masonry and restoring stone walls and root cellars. During the lecture, he will talk about different types of root cellars, how they are built, and how they function and are maintained to continue serving as smart food storage far into the future.
